What is the look for 2011?

What is the look for 2011?

THE FABULOUS FRINGE
Tapping into fashion’s sixties theme, fringes are still a big trend for autumn. Whether it’s razor-sharp, blunt bangs or a soft, sweeping side fringe, this is a great way to make a style statement. This season’s fringe is feminine, flirtatiously framing the eyes, and is the easiest way to freshen up your look.

THE SEVENTIES WAVE
Another key trend for this season is the seventies, and soft, tousled waves sum this look up perfectly. Update yours by adding volume, texture and shine for hair that screams effortless cool.

THE NEW QUIFF
Get high this autumn with the return of the quiff, a great look for both men and women. But, if thoughts of Jedward fill you with fear, don’t worry – this quiff is more laid-back, more grown-up and definitely more stylish!

THE TURN OF THE HAT
Tap into this season’s androgynous trend and don a hat, be it a trilby, a fedora or even a beret. This is one look that applies to both men and women and is a key way to update your look. Hats are the perfect transitional accessory – ideal on chillier days, but pay attention to your hair underneath: hat hair is never a good look!

THE GROWN-UP PLAIT
Forget Heidi – this season’s plaits are altogether more daring, more adventurous and more grown-up. Try plaiting hair loosely to the side and tying with a simple lace or just braid narrow sections through the crown creating height and texture. However you choose to wear your plait, just make sure it’s dishevelled – this is no place for Kirby grips!

Your hair questions answered by our team...

My hair is so fine and when I am blow waving it, it tangles easily, what can I do?

Eliminate this problem at the conditioning stage. Apply conditioner and, before rinsing out, use a wide-toothed comb taking care not to tug at the hair as this causes it to break easily. When ready to sculpt and style, use a combination of serum and gel which will increase your hair's manageability and give extra definition and shine.

My hair is starting to show signs of ageing. What can I do?

Hair "matures", sadly just like every other part of the body. It can grow weaker, become thinner and sometimes look thin and coarse.

Product ranges, like Kerastase's Age Premium - available at Blushes -  is formulated to revitalise mature hair. It is designed to hydrate your hair, replacing vital moisture.

Take care when applying conditioner to your hair and causing it to look more limp. Work conditioner into your hair ends, where it is needed, and not the roots. Sticking to the hair ends will give your hair more bounce and a fuller body.

Always ask a Blushes stylists for advice and guidance about hair products. They can help you choose what is best for your hair.

Also make sure you use a product with contains a UV filter to protect your hair from the sun.

I have bleach blonde highlights over an inch of regrowth of brown hair. What colours should I use to stop the new growth looking so dark?

I would recommend blonde and a natural colour to blend in with the regrowth. When I say natural I mean as close to her own colour as a slightly lighter natural shade to make it multi-tonal. - Jayne Vowles, General Manager, blushes Cheltenham

How can I get incredibly shiny hair - just like the celebrities?

The secret is hairspray, hairspray and more hairspray! First blow dry your hair. Apply hairspray and then use your straighteners to melt the spray on to your hair.

Repeat this process another two times: spray and melt on to hair with straighteners. The three layers of melted spray will give your hair an incredible shine and will reflect light.

And you too will look like Cheryl Cole!

It's that simple

My hair is very fine and always looks so flat?

Heat-activated hair savers will sort this problem out for you. Apply a heat-activated, leave-in conditioner on two-inch sections of wet hair. Blow-dry using a large, round brush, curling ends slightly. On completion comb through for a smooth finish. This should leave your hair looking ultra-shiny.
