Dressing The Modern Day Bride and Groom, with Clements & Church

Heavily inspired by Bianca Jagger’s white suit on her wedding day, the controversial twist on bridal attire has continued to see a shift in attitude...

It’s a luxury and a thrill to have a bespoke, custom made piece of clothing especially for you on your big day. Who better to look after you than one of the talented tailors at Clements and Church.

Masters of delivering sartorial excellence for a whole range of different clients, Clements and Church have amassed a solid reputation in the world of tailoring in the U.K upholding quintessentially British design since their inception in 2007. Alongside their four showrooms in the UK, they offer travelling tailors who’ll provide services to you wherever you should desire. Moving with the times, their portfolio will soon include a fully fledged women’s wear collection in addition to their incredible Bridal Suit to cater to women’s tailoring needs as well as mens.

Heavily inspired by Bianca Jagger’s white suit on her wedding day, the controversial twist on bridal attire has continued to see a shift in attitude, away from the traditional into something a little more personal and rule breaking.

“Having worn a tailored white Trouser suit to my own wedding I wanted to give other Brides the opportunity to wear something different from the traditional Wedding dress. You cannot under estimate the impact of perfectly cut tailoring, which makes you feel empowered. Finally, it is also a timeless classic that can be worn time and again, not just on your wedding day.”

— ANNA MOORE, HEAD OFWOMEN'S DESIGN

The white tux is a bold, statement move made by the modern bride and one that also takes inspiration from Clements Head of Women’s Design, Anna Moore, who made the decision to wear a suit on her wedding day. Timeless and classic, no one can argue that this look is something that will leave your guests talking about you for all the right reasons.

We chatted to Ian, Head Tailor at Clements and Church Oxford, one of our new neighbours at Blushes Oxford on Little Clarendon Street about the tailoring process for the grooms side:

“The beauty of a custom made suit is the ability to create something unique to you – that works to suit your wedding style-whether it’s in town or the country, at home or abroad.

We offer solutions to fit your brief whether you are looking for traditional tails, an evening tuxedo or a classic three-piece. We can create lightweight tailoring for hot climates and contemporary lounge suits for relaxed, intimate weddings; whatever your plans, we can get the look. Of course, it will fit you perfectly, as we work with your measurements and posture;

You’ll choose from our extensive collection of luxury fabrics and decide on sartorial finishes such as linings, buttons, working cuffs and personalised monograms. Our groom service means we can be with you from the first consultation to the photos after the ceremony to ensure everything is wrinkle-free on the day.”

Ian recommends visiting for a consultation at least three months ahead of the big day to allow enough time for fittings and adjustments, once you’ve made all of your important fabric, fit and bespoke personalisation choices.

Championing style for the entire wedding party of the best man and groomsmen, Ian and the team can help to coordinate you by matching shirts, ties, pocket squares and even bespoke shoes to ensure the finished look is seamlessly sophisticated.

The tailors will even attend on the day if you should so wish, to ensure everyone looks their best throughout the day.
