4 Top Tips from our Stylists on Summer Hair Care

Spring is the perfect time to switch-up your usual routine getting you ready for warmer weather which calls for more intense hydration, UV protection and anti-humidity frizz hair styling products and treatments. There’s no better time to start than now, so we’ve curated our top tips for letting your hair live its best life, while you are.

Our tips below will help you combat lack of moisture, brittleness and discolouration from the sun, giving your healthy, nourished locks all summer long.

Switch up your hair care products

Now is a great time to go through and take stock of what hair styling products and hair care products you have and what you might need. If your hair is prone to a lack of moisture anyway, then these are some products that you definitely need in your arsenal for the summer months:

-Kérastase Chroma Thermique- a spritz in leave-in serum which helps with frizz, hydration, intense protection against UV rays & humidity and heat protection up to 230’c.

-Kérastase Ciment Thermique- a cream based thermique for sensitised, porous hair (great for blondes and all colour treated hair), helps to restructure, resurface and smooths down the cuticle ready for using heat for up to 180’c.

You may also want to stock up on your colour protection shampoo to protect you from UV rays that will affect your colour, so consider switching to a shampoo and conditioner that helps maintain the look you want, L’Oreal have brought out their Chroma Créme range which has a blue and a purple shampoo allowing you to diminish those unwanted brassy tones that will surface after spending time in the sun! The most important take away is don't skip the heat protection.

Visit your stylist

Whatever your style or hair goals this summer, an appointment with your hairstylist is always the first port of call. Not only can they give you advice and guidance about your particular hair needs, but they can also help you prepare for going away with a pre-summer trim.

Leave-in treatments and masks

Using a leave-in treatment or mask once a week can help to recover and hydrate your hair. You’re looking for something that offers deep hydration without weighing down the hair.

We recommend the Masque Après-Soleil mask and Creme UV Sublime leave-in treatment for the best summer sun recovery.  Both of these leave-in treatments are lightweight and full of hair healing active ingredients.

Protect your colour

Whilst for some the sun can create gorgeous, shimmering highlights, exposure to UV rays will cause more vibrant hair colour to fade faster. If you are colouring your hair during the summer months, we recommend the in-salon treatments of Olaplex No1 and No2 before jetting off on holiday .

In order to prevent damage and repair, this treatment works on a molecular level to re-strengthen the disulphide bonds in the hair. The two steps work together; step one strengthens and repairs broken bonds, and step two is then used as a treatment post-colour. The overall result transforms your hair instantly, but we recommend a course of treatments to truly reap the benefits.

For fine hair, we would recommend Masque Après-Soleil mask for a frizz-free and hydrated finish. And for coloured, long hairstyles we might recommend  Creme UV Sublime leave in treatment, as it won’t weigh down your hair, and will prevent your colour from deteriorating in the sun.

If you’re not sure which hair treatments and hair styling products would be the best for you and your hair, book an appointment with a hairstylist, who will be able to advise you on how to personalise your hair care routine to best suit your individual needs.

Hair protection throughout the summer months is all about hair health and damage prevention, rather than cure.
