Why You Need Olaplex in Your Life

At Blushes we always want to be able to achieve your dream hair, however when it comes to colouring, we like to take special care to look after your hair because we know first hand the toll that chemical processes can take.

We have spent decades researching and curating the best possible collection of products and treatments that we both trust, use regularly and use on our own hair.

As you will probably already know the treatments that we use within the salon the most are Olaplex and Kérastase Fusio Doses, with the newest addition of the revolutionary L’Oreal Metal Detox pre and post colour treatment.

To go into a little bit about why we use treatments, what they are and what they do- it firstly begins with an analysis of your hair, it’s texture and your lifestyle.

Why Colouring Services Require Treatments

When our colour experts approach your hair they will always ask about your home haircare and your lifestyle. This gives us the basic foundations of what we need to know to prescribe products and treatments to keep your hair feeling and looking healthy at home.

We believe in investing in the very best haircare when colouring your hair, many of you spend countless hours in the salon having one of our experts tending to your colour, therefore care should continue to be taken at home.

When it comes to colouring services, some are obviously more harmful to your hair than others. It’s common knowledge that any lightening services are more damaging to your hair than others and require more care and attention.

The Science Behind the Process

When lightening the hair, to get into detailed terms, the process - no matter where you go and what products are used - removes pigment from the hair by poking holes in the cuticle to allow the pigment to slip out and thus lightening the shade your hair appears. As you can imagine, this is extremely taxing on the hair which is why our colourists believe it’s necessary to add a bond-building treatment into both your colour as it lifts, and post-colour too.

When lightening the hair the cuticles are opened, in order to allow the natural pigment to be removed, it’s then important to use a treatment or shampoo and conditioning sequence that both closes the cuticle, and re-regulates the PH value of the hair.

If the cuticle is left open post lightening service, it is more susceptible to further damage from either heat or outside elements such as environment and pollution.

Olaplex Step 1 & 2

Olaplex’s patented technology works on a molecular level to re-strengthen the disulphide bonds in the hair in order to prevent damage, and repair it, returning the hair to a virgin like state.

In the hair world Olaplex is known as the Holy Grail of all treatments, the results of using it consistently are beyond transformative. Even as a stand-alone treatment, this bond-building treatment is life changing if your hair is fragile or compromised.

In our hair salons we hold steps 1 and 2, the professional line that we combine with colouring processes. Step 1 is added directly into the colour to seek out broken bonds and help repair them as you’re lifting or depositing colour into the cuticle. Step 2 is then used as a treatment pre-shampoo, it is essential that these steps are used together- just as you would use shampoo and always follow with conditioner, it’s the same principle. Olaplex needs a little time to work, our colourists will apply the treatment from roots to ends and leave it to penetrate for at least 10 minutes depending on the extent of breakage or fragility of the hair.

This is a long lasting treatment that when combined with a comprehensive at home routine can have incredible results. There are also numbers 0 through 7 in their range that you can use to look after your hair at home too.

Note: Olaplex can also be used without colouring services, this can also be added onto a cut and finish if your hair is suffering from thermal, chemical or environmental damage.

The bottom line is, as stylists and colourists we believe in insuring your hair because prevention is always better than cure. Your dream hair is always within reach with the right amount of time, treatments and care to maintain the health and integrity of your hair.
