4 easy hairstyles that will be on point for Spring 2023

If the Spring 2023 hair trends have taught us anything at all, it’s that pretty much anything goes. From Bedhead hair to wild buns with pieces sticking out, we’re taking it that hair in 2023 is a free-for-all.

The good news? There’s versatility in that. Say goodbye to trying to painstakingly recreate trends from the catwalk that in no way represent modern life and instead say HELLO to calling the shots.

Shall we give you the scoop straight from the horse's mouth on what to do with your hair in the New Year? We’ve called in the Blushes Solihull Hairdressers to reveal all.

First – Go back to basics

The name of the game is creating easily-achievable, at-home styles so these are a few from our Solihull salon team.

Condition. Is. Everything. We cannot stress this enough. So first, to get your hair to behave in the winter months when - let’s be honest - it doesn’t, you’re going to need the help of some great products. Oh, and maybe take a read of our “winter haircare tips” blog too so you’re fully informed.

Let’s start with the products, if you’re not sure what you should be using for your hair, then that’s what we’re here for. Our salon teams will equip you with all the knowledge you need to get started. But one thing’s for sure, you’re going to need heat protection (always) and products that will help mould your hair into a style (and keep it there!)

Now you have an overview of the fundamentals, let's get into the good stuff and tell you about some cool hairstyles you can create in Spring 2023.

Slicked back and sleek

Items you will need: A comb of any description, a paddle brush, a smoothing blow-drying cream, a hairdryer of your choice, and quite possibly some light hairspray or gel.

First, start with clean, fresh hair so that you’ve got the perfect base to work with.

While your hair is damp and towel-dried, apply a blow-drying cream like Keratin Thermique Blow-Dry Cream to give you some hold and heat protection.

To get a flat and smooth finish, you’ll want to grab your paddle brush and blow dry pointing the nozzle down towards the floor and combing through as you go so that it’s knot-free and as flat as possible. If you feel like your hair still needs a little help flattening or the frizz has reared its ugly head then pop a tiny dot of oil or serum through your hands and smooth through the mids and ends of the hair using flattened palms.

If you’re STILL finding that you have a few strays, then grab your hairspray, spritz some on your palms again and flatten through.

Want to add a little extra panache to this look? Pop in a very neat center parting, smooth it into a bun at the nape of the neck, and slide a couple of cool clips in.

In praise of ponytails

The ponytail. Not to be confused with the boring low-mid pony your mum would create for you ready to hit the first day of year 9, but something with more flair, more elegance, or possibly more drama.

If you’ve got hair to rival Rapunzel then the world is truly your oyster when it comes to what you can create. We’re thinking high ponytail, multiple evenly spaced bobbles in the tail, v dramatic and actually nice and easy to create yourself at home.

Or, perhaps a mid-high messy ponytail with a subtle wave to it. Aim to keep a parting in the hair as you scoop it up - if you’ve got bangs or some shorter pieces framing the face pop those out and lightly wave those too. Perhaps even a touch of backcombing (oooer) to the ponytail for a bit of extra height.

A third idea if you’re feeling a sophisticated and classic look is to create a neatly controlled pony that finishes in a swishy, bouncy, swishy fashion. Pro tip: if you have a Dyson Airwrap in your armory, this is the time to whack out your “frizz-smoothing” nozzle (technical term) and run that down your ponytail.

Half and Half

Need some inspo that meets the criteria of “could wear to work from home, but would still look acceptable and cool if I got called into the office”? AKA lazy girl hair. We got you.

Works for: freshly washed hair or 1-2 day old hair, we don’t judge.

You’ll need: A claw clip, and some dry shampoo (regardless of the aforementioned hair wash stage), and a pair of straighteners/tongs if you’re feeling a little extra.

Loosely wave all of your hair using wide thick sections and leaving the ends straighter as you come down with either the straighteners or tongs. Spritz through some dry shampoo if your hair is on the mid-finer side of things for an added volume/texture boost, the powder in the dry shampoo will give your hair the good kind of grit.

Leave to sit and cool for around 5 minutes and give it all a comb through, grab your claw-clip-of-choice and scrape around ⅓ of your hair up into that. And voila! Easy, away from your face so that you can concentrate and uber chic.

Easy hairstyles with a side parting

We know, we know - most hairstyles are tailored to those who rock a middle parting and nobody seems to have any time for talking about other partings. But, side partings this is your MOMENT.

Even if you have a center parting, for something a little different try how your usual hairstyle looks on a side parting - you’ll be amazed at how different your face shape look and how great it feels to just try something new!

A side part looks great with:

Hollywood waves: Curling the thicker side of the parting fully and away from your face and the slimmer side towards your face, let cool, spritz with your chosen spray and comb out using a paddle/bristle brush to bring the waves together to create a curtain effect.

The French-style ear tuck: Smart, sleek, sophisticated. Smooth blow-dried hair with a little tuck under at the end towards your face and then tuck the slimmer side behind your ear and spray in place. Tres chic!

Curls, coils & natural waves: Opt for a slight side parting, this will help keep the balance of your hair juuuuuuust right. When towel-dried, but still damp scrunch in a cocktail of a super strong holding mousse (and don’t be shy with it now) alongside a curl cream with leave-in conditioner properties. The choice is yours what you do next, whether you’re an air-dryer or a diffuser! Once your natural curls/waves have sprung into place try adding a statement slide clip.

Trouble up top?

We’re not about suggesting styles that we don’t think you could create at home, because that’s just not us.

But, we’d love to help you explore new and fun ways to style your hair yourself. Why not book in a blowdry with one of our hairstyling team in our Solihull hair salon and have them demo a few different options to try yourself? Sounds like fun, right? They can also help guide you to a range of products that will help you achieve them, stress-free.
